The Voices of Doubt: A Familiar Sound

When I launched my coaching business back in 2017, I can still vividly hear the voices of people—many of them close to me—saying things like:

  • “That’s a bad idea.”

  • “It’s too hard.”

  • “You’re making a mistake going out on your own.”

It wasn’t just noise—it was coming from people I cared about. People who I thought would support me. But instead of encouragement, I got warnings and doubt.

Was launching my coaching business easy? Absolutely not. But I had something that outweighed the fear and criticism: confidence in myself and my abilities.

Round Two: Launching a Real Estate Team

A year and a half ago, I did it again—I launched a real estate team. And just like before, the voices returned.

This time, it was:
“You can’t do both and be successful.”
“You’re dividing your time.”

But again, I chose to trust in myself. Fast forward to today—my real estate team is 18 agents strong, serving both the Greater Houston area and the Texas Coastal Bend.

What others said couldn’t be done… is happening.

The Truth About Advice: Be Selective

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along this journey is this:

Stop seeking unwarranted advice—especially from those who haven’t walked your path.

Sometimes the people closest to you, with the best intentions, can be your worst advisors. Their advice often comes from fear, not experience. It’s rooted in what they would or wouldn’t do—not what’s right for you.

So What Should You Do Instead?

  • Believe in yourself. If you don’t, no one else will.

  • Keep building your skill set. Mastery takes time and commitment.

  • Measure your growth against who you were yesterday, not against someone else.

  • Keep moving. And when things don’t go as planned, be willing to pivot.

Final Thoughts: Progress Over Perfection

Am I where I want to be in my businesses today? No—not yet. But I know this: I’m moving in the right direction. That’s what matters.

Keep showing up. Keep believing. And most importantly, keep building the life you want—not the one others think you should have.
