The Real Reason You’re Stuck in a Rut—and What to Do About It

A mindset shift for small business owners and entrepreneurs who feel stuck

If you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur, you’ve likely faced a moment when things just didn’t feel right. Maybe your progress slowed, your motivation faded, or the results you were hoping for simply didn’t show up. The gut reaction? Change everything—your environment, your routine, the people around you. I’ve been there.

Why Change Isn’t Always the Solution

For years, I thought the solution to stagnation was external. When things weren’t working, my instinct was to shake things up. New people. New opportunities. A new direction.

But I’ve come to learn something powerful over time:
Changing your circumstances without addressing your mindset only delays the real issue.

It’s not that changes in your surroundings can’t help—they sometimes can. But more often than not, we use those changes as a way to avoid looking inward.

The Power of Self-Reflection in Business

These days, when I feel stuck or overwhelmed, I take a different approach. I stop everything and ask myself three crucial questions:

How am I contributing to this situation?

What am I not doing that I know I should be doing?

What am I telling myself I’m doing, but deep down I know I’m not?

These questions are not easy to answer. But they’re necessary. They force me to get honest—with myself.

The Hard Truth: You Might Be the Roadblock

One of the most difficult lessons I’ve learned as a business leader is this:
Sometimes, the biggest obstacle in our business is us.

It’s easy to lie to ourselves to justify where we are. It’s easy to blame market conditions, lack of support, or bad luck. But the reality is that we are often in our current situation because of the decisions we’ve made—or the ones we’ve avoided.

We can be our own worst enemy.

A Challenge for Small Business Owners

If you’re feeling stuck in your business right now, I want to encourage you:
Don’t run. Reflect.

Face the discomfort. Ask yourself the hard questions. Look in the mirror.
Because when you start answering honestly, you unlock something incredibly powerful: clarity.

And with clarity comes momentum. Growth. Change that actually sticks.

Final Thought: Real Growth Starts Within

External changes can help. But internal transformation is what leads to lasting success in business—and in life.

Signed,
Someone who’s lived it—and still learning from it.

Stop Holding Meetings Without a Purpose: A Wake-Up Call for Brokers, Team Leaders, and Small Business Owners

Weekly Business and Life Advice from Jeremy Williams Red Hawk Coaching Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty Meetings with Intention

By: Jeremy Williams, Owner/Head Coach at Red Hawk Coaching and Team Leader of the Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty

In the fast-paced world of real estate and small business, time is one of your most valuable resources. Yet, one of the biggest time-wasters we see—especially among real estate brokers, team leaders, and small business owners—is the dreaded meeting without a purpose.

The Problem with Purpose-Less Meetings

How many times have you walked into a meeting only to walk out wondering what the point was? Over the years, I’ve experienced far too many meetings that lacked direction, intention, or any measurable outcome. These meetings drain time, energy, and morale. If you can’t clearly define why you’re meeting and what needs to be accomplished, you probably shouldn’t be meeting at all.

Meetings should never exist just to fill a slot on the calendar. They should move the needle—toward closing deals, solving problems, inspiring innovation, or driving results.

Why Intentional Meetings Matter

If you’re leading a real estate team or running a small business, every meeting should serve a strategic purpose. Whether you’re reviewing performance, setting goals, training your team, or solving a specific challenge—define the outcome before you even send out the invite.

Ask yourself:

  • What is the goal of this meeting?

  • What does success look like at the end of it?

  • What action steps will attendees walk away with?

When your meetings are guided by purpose and focused on results, your team becomes more aligned, motivated, and productive.

The Real Cost of Wasted Time

Real estate professionals and business owners know that time literally is money. Every hour spent in a meeting with no value is an hour you could have spent prospecting, closing deals, or growing your business. It’s not just about cutting back on meetings—it’s about making every meeting count.

Meet with Purpose. Lead with Clarity.

Start treating meetings like strategic business tools, not casual conversations. Set an agenda, identify who needs to be in the room, define the objective, and always wrap with clear next steps.

Remember: Don’t meet unless there’s a reason. Don’t meet unless there’s a result.

So here’s the question: What’s been your personal experience with meetings that went nowhere? And what changed when you started leading with purpose?

When the Results Don’t Match the Effort Yet: Why You Must Keep Going

Success doesn’t always follow effort on a convenient schedule. Sometimes, you can be doing everything right—putting in the hours, making the calls, showing up day after day—and the results still lag behind.

If you’ve been grinding and wondering if it’s worth it… this message is for you.

The Hidden Growth Season

One of the hardest truths in business, whether you’re building a real estate career or launching any entrepreneurial venture, is that results don’t always show up right away.

There’s a season where the seeds you’ve planted are growing beneath the surface. You may not see it, but the roots are taking hold. The relationships you’re building, the habits you’re forming, the skills you’re sharpening—all of it is part of the unseen momentum.

Why This Season Matters

This is the season where most people quit.
It’s the “messy middle”—the point where doubt creeps in, motivation wanes, and comparison starts to steal your focus.

But here’s the reality:

You may be closer to wild success than you think.

It’s often just on the other side of staying consistent.

Keep Showing Up: Success Rewards Consistency

At Red Hawk Coaching, I work with real estate agents and entrepreneurs every day who are navigating these same emotions. And I remind them of one simple truth:

Consistency compounds.

Each action you take is either building momentum or slowing it down. If you give up now, you’ll never know how close you were to a breakthrough. But if you keep going, results will eventually catch up to your effort—and often in a big way.

How to Stay Motivated When the Results Are Delayed

Here are a few coaching strategies I recommend when you’re in that tough space:

  • Revisit your “why.” Your vision has to be bigger than your frustration.

  • Focus on progress, not perfection. Track actions taken, not just results.

  • Surround yourself with encouragement. Who’s in your corner pushing you forward?

  • Invest in growth. Read, train, and get coaching support that keeps your mindset strong.

You May Be One Step Away…

What if your next phone call, next showing, next open house, or next post is the one that changes everything?

You won’t know if you stop now.

This is your reminder: keep going. The gap between where you are and where you want to be might be much smaller than it feels today.

As both the Team Leader of the Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty, and the Head Coach at Red Hawk Coaching, I’ve seen this story unfold time and time again. The ones who succeed are not always the most talented—but they are always the most persistent.

Don’t quit too early. Stay in the fight. Your success is closer than you think.

Why You Should Stop Taking Advice from People Who Haven’t Been Where You’re Going

Jeremy Williams Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty

The Voices of Doubt: A Familiar Sound

When I launched my coaching business back in 2017, I can still vividly hear the voices of people—many of them close to me—saying things like:

  • “That’s a bad idea.”

  • “It’s too hard.”

  • “You’re making a mistake going out on your own.”

It wasn’t just noise—it was coming from people I cared about. People who I thought would support me. But instead of encouragement, I got warnings and doubt.

Was launching my coaching business easy? Absolutely not. But I had something that outweighed the fear and criticism: confidence in myself and my abilities.

Round Two: Launching a Real Estate Team

A year and a half ago, I did it again—I launched a real estate team. And just like before, the voices returned.

This time, it was:
“You can’t do both and be successful.”
“You’re dividing your time.”

But again, I chose to trust in myself. Fast forward to today—my real estate team is 18 agents strong, serving both the Greater Houston area and the Texas Coastal Bend.

What others said couldn’t be done… is happening.

The Truth About Advice: Be Selective

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along this journey is this:

Stop seeking unwarranted advice—especially from those who haven’t walked your path.

Sometimes the people closest to you, with the best intentions, can be your worst advisors. Their advice often comes from fear, not experience. It’s rooted in what they would or wouldn’t do—not what’s right for you.

So What Should You Do Instead?

  • Believe in yourself. If you don’t, no one else will.

  • Keep building your skill set. Mastery takes time and commitment.

  • Measure your growth against who you were yesterday, not against someone else.

  • Keep moving. And when things don’t go as planned, be willing to pivot.

Final Thoughts: Progress Over Perfection

Am I where I want to be in my businesses today? No—not yet. But I know this: I’m moving in the right direction. That’s what matters.

Keep showing up. Keep believing. And most importantly, keep building the life you want—not the one others think you should have.

Weekly Business & Life Advice: Counterbalance as a Business Owner: Why Perfect Balance Is a Myth

As a business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in the grind. The demands of running a business can feel never-ending, and it’s tempting to pour all your time and energy into work. But here’s the reality: if you’re not intentional about recharging, burnout is inevitable. On the flip side, if you spend too much time away from your business, leads dry up, and momentum stalls. The key isn’t to strive for perfect balance—it’s to seek counterbalance.

What Is Counterbalance?

The concept of counterbalance, introduced in The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, challenges the idea of maintaining perfect equilibrium between work and personal life. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of intentional focus, allowing the pendulum to swing back and forth between different priorities as needed.

Rather than aiming to keep everything balanced at all times, counterbalance means leaning into the areas that need your attention most at any given moment. Sometimes that means being fully committed to a major business goal, while other times, it’s about stepping back and prioritizing personal moments that matter. The key is to avoid staying at either extreme for too long.

Why Perfect Balance Is a Myth

The pursuit of perfect balance can be overwhelming and unrealistic—especially for business owners. Life and business are constantly evolving, and demands fluctuate from day to day. Trying to keep everything perfectly balanced can lead to frustration and guilt, making it harder to feel accomplished in either area.

Instead, counterbalance allows you to move fluidly between your commitments. When you’re deeply focused on work, you give it your best. When life calls, you fully embrace it without guilt. The goal is to be intentional and aware of when it’s time to shift your focus.

A Real-Life Example of Counterbalance

This past weekend, I experienced the power of counterbalance firsthand. After being chest-deep in work for several weeks, I took a step back to immerse myself in family time. My daughter came to town from Mississippi State University, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to spend time with her. We also celebrated my nephew’s engagement to his soon-to-be bride, which was followed by the news of his deployment to Georgia and eventually Germany with the U.S. Army—his first choice. On top of that, we celebrated my son’s birthday, which happens to fall on the same day as his Papa’s birthday.

While it felt good to focus on family and life events, Monday rolled around, and it was time to get back to work. That’s counterbalance—allowing yourself the freedom to be fully present in one area when it’s most important and then swinging back when the time is right.

The Takeaway

As a business owner, it’s not about maintaining perfect balance but about being intentional with your focus. Allow yourself to go all-in on your business when necessary and embrace life when the moment calls for it. Counterbalance is a healthier, more sustainable approach to living and working with purpose.

If you’re struggling to find your rhythm or feel burnt out from trying to maintain perfect balance, consider adopting the counterbalance mindset. By intentionally focusing on one priority at a time, you’ll find that both your business and personal life can thrive without feeling overwhelmed.

Final Thoughts

Running a business isn’t easy, and neither is balancing life’s demands. The secret is to counterbalance rather than chase perfection. Make space for the important moments, whether they’re personal or professional, and let yourself swing the pendulum as needed. After a refreshing weekend with family, I’m ready to dive back into work—recharged and motivated.

Stay focused, stay intentional, and remember that counterbalance is the key to thriving as a business owner.

Weekly Business & Life Advice: Recognizing the Divine Moments in Your Journey

Are You Noticing the Signs in Your Life and Business?

In both business and life, we often experience moments that some may attribute to the Law of Attraction, while others—myself included—see as God’s hand at work. These moments of intervention, alignment, and discernment are not by chance; they are part of a greater plan.

A Pivotal Moment That Changed Everything

When I was seeking to grow financially beyond my work in the nonprofit sector, God placed Earl Hale in my life. Earl, an ex-Shell executive turned real estate agent, helped my wife, Laurie, and me purchase our first home in Houston, Texas. During that process, he said, Jeremy, you’d make a great real estate agent.” Little did I know that just a few months later, I would be working full-time in real estate sales.

Recognizing the God Moments in Your Journey

Over the years, I have encountered many of these “God moments.” Whether it was a transition in leadership, a move to a new office or team, or the uncanny connections that have become valued members of the Red Hawk Property Team, I have seen God’s hand guiding me. These moments have also occurred in times of struggle, lifting me when I was down, and in times of success, elevating what I was already doing.

More importantly, these divine interventions have led me into relationships with incredible people—and sometimes away from others, which I believe is God’s way of protecting my spirit. Every experience, every lesson learned, has reinforced my commitment to living in gratitude.

The Power of Gratitude and Faith

I truly believe that God honors gratitude, and for those who lean into the Law of Attraction, it is often said that what you put into the universe is what you receive in return.

The key lesson in these moments is to apply what you learn and keep moving forward. I firmly believe that God’s plan cannot unfold if we remain stagnant. The Law of Attraction might express this differently—that becoming the best version of yourself requires attracting the right people and opportunities—but the underlying truth remains the same.

Keep Moving Forward in Faith and Business

Whether you believe in divine intervention or the universe aligning in your favor, one thing is certain:

  • Doing your best
  • Honoring your work
  • Continually moving forward

These principles can lead to miraculous outcomes.

Final Thoughts: Are You Paying Attention?

Sometimes, it is difficult to recognize these moments while you’re in them—hindsight, after all, is always 20/20. But if you take a step back and reflect, you may start to see the intricate way in which your path has been shaped for the better.

So, what are you attracting?

  • How are you living your life?
  • How are you conducting your business?
  • When was the last time you looked up and simply said, “Thank you”?

Wishing You a Great Week in Business and Life!

Take a moment today to express gratitude, recognize your God moments, and continue moving forward in faith and action.

Weekly Business & Life Advice: The Feelings You Leave Behind Matter

Team Leader Jeremy Williams Red Hawk Property Team JLA Realty wearing a BYX Brothers Under Christ Hat Founding Father at Texas State University

I got my walk through the forest in this morning. It always gives me time to think and work through things in life and business. As I reflected, something powerful came to mind that I want to share with you today.

Once a week, I’ll be sharing insights on my website—real business and life advice based on personal experiences. The wins and losses, the highs and lows, the good and the bad. My hope is that these lessons help you navigate your own journey and become the best version of yourself.

I’m not a guru, not a prophet—just a man who has placed his faith in Jesus and does his best (yes, attempts, because I’m not perfect) to lay everything at His feet. If my experiences can help move the needle for you in your business and personal life, then this effort will have been worth it.

How People Feel About You Shapes Your Success

This morning, I came across an Instagram Reel featuring Robert Herjavec—many of you know him from Shark Tank. In an interview, he was asked about the best sales advice he ever received. He shared, and I paraphrase:

“People often don’t remember what you say, but they remember how you make them feel.”

That stuck with me. Because while it’s great business advice, it’s also a fundamental truth about life. The way we make others feel is what lingers long after words are spoken or actions are taken.

Whether you’re in sales, leadership, or any role that involves human interaction, your impact isn’t just measured by what you do—it’s measured by how you make people feel.

Your Feelings Shape Your Path

Over the past 21 years in real estate—spanning sales, leadership, and coaching—I’ve had experiences where I felt overlooked or undervalued by those in leadership roles. Whether it was through their words, their silence, or their actions, those feelings stayed with me. They weren’t just passing thoughts; they shaped my decisions.

Instead of letting those feelings hold me back, I used them as fuel. They pushed me to build something of my own—first with Red Hawk Coaching, then with the Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty.

At the time, those feelings were tough to process. But looking back, they were necessary. They gave me clarity. They became a turning point. And now, I find myself in an environment where leadership fosters a different feeling—one of motivation, encouragement, and support. That feeling is driving me to build something even greater.

How Are You Making Others Feel?

The truth is, the way we make others feel can either hold them back or propel them forward.

So, my question to you is: How do you make people feel?

  • Do they feel seen? Do they feel valued?
  • Do you reach out when they need a listening ear?
  • Do your clients feel like they are your top priority?
  • Do your employees or colleagues feel respected and empowered?

Because just as your feelings influence your path, the way you make others feel influences theirs.

Your Challenge for the Week

Today, I challenge you to be intentional—not just about your own feelings, but about the feelings you leave behind in the lives of others. Because in the end, that’s what they’ll remember.

Let’s keep this conversation going. Share your thoughts in the comments, and let me know: What’s one way you plan to make someone feel valued this week?

Why This Matters for Business and Life

  • Successful businesses are built on strong relationships—your brand is what people feel when they think about you.
  • Leadership isn’t just about strategy; it’s about how you make people feel when they work with you.
  • Personal growth happens when you acknowledge your own feelings and use them to make better choices.

This is just the beginning of my weekly business and life advice series, so stay tuned for more insights. If you found this valuable, share it with someone who needs to hear it.

Until next time, be intentional, and remember—the feelings you leave behind matter more than you think.
